We are all navigating through these changes and what they mean to us. Our Old Boys community spreads far wider than Hobart and Tasmania, across every state and territory in Australia and around the world including New York, London, Italy, Spain, and China. We’re mindful that there are many of us doing it really tough. |

Old Boy Leading the battle against COVID-19
Professor
Dale Fisher (’77) is the Singapore-based Chairman of the World Health
Organisation’s Outbreak Alert and Response Network. |
O’Connor wins Glover Prize
Artist and Old Boy, Robert O’Connor (’01), was recently awarded the prestigious Glover Art Prize. The Glover Prize has become one of Australia’s most significant awards for landscape painting of Tasmania. His painting titled ‘Somewhere Near Oatlands’, is of a cut of meat with vegetables against the midlands landscape. |

Sydney to Hobart dream comes true
Six of our Old Boys formed the crew on the boat Willie Smith’s Philosopher winning IRC Division 6, the ORCi Division 5 and the Corinthian Division in the 2019 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. |
Old Boy on the frontline against Samoa’s measles crisis
In November 2019, Michael Young (’15) was given the opportunity to travel to Samoa to join the Australian Medical Assistance Team with a measles outbreak. |

Derwent Valley stalwart
Robin Terry (’52) and his wife Helen are the final members of the Terry family to live in the Derwent Valley, and after 200 years this will be the first time that the Terry name is not affiliated with the region as they move to Hobart to be closer to family. |

Tom Windsor (’99) was awarded the Tasmanian of the Year Local Hero for his enormous efforts raising funds and awareness for men’s health. |

Elliston: A good innings indeed
John Elliston AM (’41) turns 96 this year and in his words ‘has lived a wonderful life’. John, who became a Member of the Order of Australia in 1981, has had a long and distinguished career in mineral exploration. |

We
congratulate Will Hodgman ('86) on his retirement from State politics
after nearly 18 years as a member of parliament including being the
longest serving Liberal Premier in Tasmania. |

Richard Bowden AM (’51) and Robert Dick (’53) |
A lifetime of community service
Richard
Bowden OAM (’51) is well known throughout the Old Boys network.
After a lifetime of service to the community as a former Acting Mayor
and long-time Deputy Mayor of the Central Highlands Council (41 years in
total), Richard was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2006.
He has also served as President of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers
Association and has served on the Fire Advisory Council. |
HSOBA funding support
Criteria for applications
Allocation of available funds will be determined by the HSOBA Committee in a priority order based on the degree to which the cause meets the criteria. Any other relevant factors identified in a request will also be considered. |
